How much salt does a softener use?
Most residential softeners use 6–10 lbs of salt per regeneration cycle, every few days. We program the system based on your actual usage to minimize salt consumption.
Will softened water taste salty?
No. The sodium added through ion exchange is minimal — well below any detectable taste level. If you have a sodium restriction, an RO drinking water system removes the residual sodium.
Does a water softener filter contaminants?
A standard softener removes hardness minerals only — not chlorine or sediment. For comprehensive treatment, many homeowners pair a softener with a whole-house filter or under-sink RO.
